The Vessel

The SS Orizaba is 140 metres long and 15metres wide. Powered by a triple expansion engine of 7000 hp and capable of 14 knots. She was designed to carry 680 passengers.

The wreck event

At lunch time on the 17th February 1905 the vessel came to a sudden halt on the 5 fathom bank and was stuck fast. Attempts were made to remove the vessel, but the engine rooms had been flooded, a large volume cargo of mail and other dry goods had been salvaged.

The dive

The area is subject to big swells and should only be dived when conditions allow. ranging in depth from 4 - 7 metres means this is a relatively easy dive site. The boilers, deck plates, large portion of the bow, steering gear and lots of other bits and pieces make this a dive not to miss.
